As far as I've been able to understand (and believe me, I'm as
impatient and frustrated as you are ;) ) those file systems were just
tech demos for the video floating around the web. Read: internal test
apps written to showcase the possibilities of FUSE. They do encourage
people to write their own file systems and they make it sound like
anybody can do it, but I'm guessing that's directed at people who
already know what they're doing when it comes to programming or using
the hardcore features of the Unix command line. So, for the rest of us
it's a waiting game. I do hope they actually come out with apps like
those in the tech demo. If you can follow directions to the letter
(even if you don't know what exactly you're doing) then I'm sure Amit
has the code and instructions somewhere.

This is also a "low energy" project considering that there's only one
person, Amit Singh, actively on the project. And even he has other
things he's doing at Google that take his attention away from it. The
impression I get is that while this is a very impressive and
interesting project to Amit Singh and to lots of other people inside
and outside of Google it is not the most important project at Google
(Google Web Search, Wave, Android, Chrome and Chrome OS probably being
the most important ones right now).

Currently I've been able to find only two file systems of interest
available to FUSE. ntfs-3g and ext2 (or is that ext3?).
The first illustrated here:

The second is what I have installed, but I forgot which one I have. I
installed it a long time ago and I have no idea how to find out.
There are others, but I hadn't been interested enough to download and
install them. They're applications of FUSE I don't recognize and
therefore didn't feel a need to download them. but I'm sure they're
useful to someone.

I really hope this project gets kicked into high gear. I'm really
itching to see what can be done other than what's been shown on the
tech demo vid. It could be as useful as widgets are for the Dashboard.
