There are a number of programs which install MacFUSE because they need
it in order to function. If you didn’t install MacFUSE yourself, then
it’s likely that one of these programs did it for you. Before you
uninstall MacFUSE you should make sure you’re not still using
something that depends on it (Parallels, MacFusion, ExpanDrive, for
example).

I’m not sure why the uninstall System Preferences isn’t working for
you. The easiest work-around would be to uninstall from the command
line. Open Terminal.app (in Applications/Utilities) and run this
command:

sudo /Library/Filesystems/fusefs.fs/Support/uninstall-macfuse-core.sh

You can then remove the MacFUSE icon in System Preferences by right
clicking on it.

I can’t say whether or not you should have faith in Google, but in
this case you probably shouldn’t blame them for MacFUSE showing up on
your computer.
