Why did you switch to Mac if everything works fine for you on Windows ? What does the Mac allow you to do that you were unable to do with Windows ?
For your problem, I would maybe point toward the fact that finder wants to list (ls -l) all files before displaying the directory where as the Windows Explorer doesn't do it.
