thanks for replying in spite of your busy schedule, that definitely helps.
I must have made a significant mistake; I'm not using a Power PC at all, I
have a brand new Intel Macbook Pro. Moreover, I could not find a single
instance of '-arch ppc' in the make file.

Why does it think I'm using PPC? Where are things are misconfigured?
