MacFuse could be considered  a "retired" project.  One of it's replacements is 
Fuse for OSX  (aka OSXFUSE)
http://osxfuse.github.com/

It may well have been installed by some other package such as a virtual machine 
application (VMWare, Parallels, etc.) or a file system translator (e.g. for 
writing NTFS files.....) in which case removing it may break things you need.

If you remove it and nothing breaks, then you don't need it.
