OK, folks, here?s a good one. I am running 10.2.3 on a G4. I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1280. I had been printing for about a week since I installed 10.2.3 (through Software Update) with no problems at all. No other system changes were made.
All of the sudden, I can?t print. I was trying to print some photos in iPhoto when it happened. At first, the printer made some noise as if it were going to start printing, then I got an error message that the print que had stopped. I did all of the obvious things, every combination of turning the printer on and off, rebooting the computer, checking Print Center to restart the que, etc., checking the cables; and the printer is operational because I made it print out the test page and it was perfect, with all colors, etc. I fiddled around with the Epson Printer Utility. The printer came up but when I tried to test anything it said that there was a connection error, to check cables, turn the printer off and on, etc. I went to the Epson support site and downloaded the latest driver 1.2bA and installed it. Nothing changed except now the Print Center won?t find the printer at all, either under USB or Epson USB. The Epson Printer Utility doesn?t find the printer at all now, either. The print dialogue box under a regular program shows ?no printer selected?. I have tried to print from a variety of programs with no change. I searched the Knowledge Base and Discussion Groups at the Apple site. I saw one suggestion to run Disk Utility to repair permissions, which I did. There were a number of permissions corrected, according to the little report box. I rebooted. Same thing. I searched VersionTracker, but the same driver that Epson posted is there. Should I reinstall the printer driver after permissions have been corrected? Do I have to reinstall 10.2? Any thoughts or suggestion will be most appreciated.
