Sorry for not giving enough info.

The cdrom drive is a firewire drive (my g4 does not have a scsi port). Toast
lite is version 5.0.1. System software is version 10.1.5, 704 mb of memory.
The cd burner is a Teac CD-W516EB.

However, I solved the problem. I downloaded version 5.2 of
Toast Lite, installed it and rebooted. Classic Hung so I rebuilt the desktop
and everything works fine and Toast Lite now sees the cd burner. Life is
good.
