Hey Group,

A topic meant to stir the pot . . .

One of Apple?s brightest trainers who graces MacTown with his presence
daily, Kevin White forwarded the link below to our staff.

http://www.powerbookcentral.com/columns/hildreth_moore/g5g4.shtml

The highlights:

? G5s were designed for mainframes NOT laptops... thus they consume
FIVE TIMES THE POWER of a standard G4... not to mention needing at
least three fans to cool the damn thing... thus the no PowerBook G5

? Just because a G5 is 64-bit DOES NOT MAKE IT FASTER... it's the other
things like the memory bus, the higher Mhz speed, and the huge caches
that make it faster.

? If you slowed a G5 down enough in Mhz (to reduce power consumption
and heat) to be put inside a laptop it would be SLOWER than the current
G4s.

? Motorola is working on dual core, high memory speed "G4" type
processors that look very promising for future PowerBooks.

In short... we don't need G5 laptops... if we can get G4s that are
almost as fast!!
