Yes they got the data back, but it wasn't cheap - about $1800 for the drive we sent. Freezing the drive is a known repair procedure, and has been documented by several sources. As it was explained to me, when a drive is frozen the metal parts inside contract just a little. Sometimes this slight contraction is just enough to allow the disk to spin on its spindle again. At that point, the drive will often spin long enough to get data off the drive, but if the drive stops spinning again, the procedure may have to be repeated.
