In OS 9 if I wanted to share a volume (say, a Firewire hard drive
connected to Computer A), I would have selected that volume while I was
on Computer A, do a "Get Info", choose "Sharing" and put a checkmark in
the "Share this item and its contents" box. Then I would set up sharing
privileges for various users.

How would I accomplish the same in OS X?

I have just attached a Firewire drive to a computer running OS X 10.3.2
and now I am trying to access that drive from another computer on the
same LAN. I have turned on Personal File Sharing in the "Sharing"
preference panel; I have established myself as a user on that computer
and I have put an alias of the drive ("Big Disk") in the Public folder
in my User folder. When I connect to this computer from another
computer, logging in under my own name, the Big Disk alias shows up in
my Public folder, but when I click on it I get the message "The volume
for "Big Disk" cannot be found."

What am I doing wrong?

Dan
