I now have all my HDDs connected and working, in part, because that
is not always the case.

Q 1:
Sometimes, they do not mount.

Sometimes, they mount, with a warning that a HDD unreadable by OSX is
trying to mount.

Sometimes, sometimes, they do not mount (with the same warning).

Q 2:
TechTool shows nothing that seems relevant,
tho now, I cannot use TechTool,
because the HDDs "are being used and will not unmount."

Q 3:
Perhaps unrelated, a file I want to trash will not go gently into
that night, because a program is using it. However, no program is
using it, and it has survived several start-ups. ResEdit (OS9)
reveals that the file is somehow coded "in use," but ResEdit cannot
change that code. What to do?

Q 4:
TechTool lets me journal HDDs and partitions. Does journaling mess things up?

Q5:
I now have mounted 5 partitions comprising two external HDDs, + the
internal HDD. The first HDD in the daisy chain shuts down (stays
cool) when I have not used it for 10 minutes, but the 2nd runs 24/7.
What to do?
