A friend with a Powerbook G4 with built-in Airport was recently in a
location that has a Linksys wireless router (connected to cable modem).
Another person in the same room with a laptop PC with wireless
capability was able to get a signal and connect to the Internet with no
problems.

My friend with the Powerbook was able to get a strong signal from the
wireless router (three bars in the menu's airport icon), but could not
connect to any internet sites. When she opened her Network preferences
and checked TCP/IP settings she found that her assigned IP number (she
had it set for DHCP assigning) was a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx number rather than
the expected 192.168.xxx.xxx. Her Airport preferences are set to join a
network automatically. She has previously used this same computer with
the same settings and connected to the internet from other wireless
routers with no problems.

Anyone have any ideas on why a laptop PC would in this instance be able
to get a correct IP assignment while a Powerbook could not?
