Anne,
A couple of things to check... First, make sure you have the latest
version of SilverKeeper. You can get the updates from LaCie or the
Apple web site. I'm using version 1.1.2. Make sure you run Disk
FirstAid on the volume that you are going to back up. This makes sure
that all of the files being backed up are not corrupted and fixes any
minor file format issues. Also, make sure that the file permissions are
set so that the files are readable by you if you are running LaCie
under your main account. Once I resolved these issues on my file
system, SilverKeeper worked just fine.
You might also consider getting a copy of Stuffit Deluxe. It's fairly
inexpensive ($79) and can be configured to handle all kinds of backup
tasks. It's slower than SilverKeeper but you can tweak the speed by
setting different compression levels or by disabling compression
completely for backups. You can find out more about Stuffit Deluxe at
the following link. http://www.stuffit.com/mac/deluxe/ These days I
use Stuffit for normal backups and use SilverKeeper for full
image/volume backups.
