Lee,

I would never send you an explosive virus, and you know that.

Region codes are still used for licensing purposes of both CDs and DVDS
- this system is far from becoming obsolete. Intellectual Property
law, is different from country to country-and thus the license of
usage will also vary. Thus the paper wrappers stating the licensing
agreements (the ones you prob never read) for both bundle and
individual sales will vary from country to country.

The studios follow the same criteria that is used for software CDs,
since the IT laws are pretty similar for DVDs and CDs.

In order to understand the framework and current laws most of the
Software companies, I used to be a member of the Software Alliance
Organization, based in Silicon Valley. They used to have monthly
meetings there, somewhat like a computer group, to keep us up to date.
They are the ones that manage all of the standards that are used for
this Disk media industry for both Hollywood and Software companies
They have a website, online, if anyone would like to ask them about
their licensing rights with their software.

I personally feel that if this subject is SOOOO out of scope for this
computer list? and no one here can speak as a KY licensed and
accountable attorney?

Then perhaps Cathy should just hire an attorney to help her with her
question and let her/him instruct her of her rights of what she can do
(or not) with copying her DVDs for travel. Then maybe she can share
what she has learned from her attorney and share some accurate and
up-to date information with this group.

That should take care of it !

Yours,
Kay
