HI,
I'm David from lexington.
I have a Starmax G3 OS 9.1 and a PowerBook G4 OS
10.3.5

I usually do not keep these networked together, but
every once in a while I hook up a cross over cable
and transfer files.

Today when I hooked them up, I noticed something
strange.
On the G4, when I hit the network in the finder. I
don't see the Starmax show up like it has in the past.
Also, from the Starmax, I don't see the Powerbook when
I hit the appleshare icon in the chooser.

So one would think that maybe file sharing is not
turned on, or the cable is not hooked up completely.

But the thing is, when I select connect to server on
the G4 and enter the Starmax's IP number, it connects.
The same thing happens when I enter the Powerbook's IP
number into the Starmax's connect to server option, it
connects also.

So why am I not able to see each computer in the
other's server window? I know it takes a few moments
to show up. But I've waited a long time.
This isn't really a huge problem except if I want to
connect to a computer of which I do not know the IP
number. Plus this is just odd behavior and I am really
curious as to why it is doing this.

One additional note.
I recently obtained a Powerbook 1400 runinng OS 8.6.
Yesterday I hooked the 1400 up to the G4 Powerbook by
way of the ethernet and succesfully networked them.
The 1400 showed up in the G4's network panel like it
should. Today, the same thing as with the Starmax.
But, I was not able to connect to server from the 1400
to the Powerbook G4. And, I don't know how to locate
the IP number on the 1400 OS 8.6 so I couldn't check
it in that dirrection.

I'm sorry this is so long. It is frustrating when
something all of a sudden ceases to work correctly.

any insight?
David
