Troubleshooting Mac OS X 10.2.4: Dial-up problems and old .kext files

Apparently, some readers had problems with yesterday's reported package
solution to dial-up reliability problems under Mac OS X 10.2.4.

The package was intended to replace six files found in the directory
/System/Library/Extensions, with older versions:
InternalModemSupport.kext
InternalUSBModem
PPP.kext
PPPoE.ppp
PPPSerial.ppp
PPTP.ppp

If you are having dial-up problems, try replacing these six files with those
contained on a Mac OS X 10.2.3 installation. Alternatively, you can use the
shareware utility Pacifist to extract the files from an older Mac OS X
updater or your original Jaguar (Mac OS X 10.2) CD.

Mac OS X 10.2.5 reportedly solves date bug

Sources report the upcoming incremental update to Mac OS X, version 10.2.5,
will resolve the notorious date bug issue first reported here on MacFixIt in
mid-February.

After updating to Mac OS X 10.2.4, some systems constantly resets themselves
to the date "Wed Dec 31 19:00:00 EST 1969" after being restarted.

Until Apple issues the permanent fix, users in these situations are forced
to revert to Mac OS X 10.2.3; another inconvenient process that will require
reconfiguration of preference settings and other considerations that are
amplified in a multi-user environment. [See our Mac OS X 10.2.2 report under
the heading "Reverting to Mac OS X 10.2.1" for instructions that apply to
every incremental update.]
