In OS9 there was a need for a directory utility (DiskWarrior) and a file utility (Disk First Aid, TechTool, Nortons). And a defragger (TechTool, Nortons). OSX still has directories and files, so you need new versions of the utilities for them. Some say OSX does not need defragging, but gets really fragmented, it can be defragged, and Drive10 does it, so why not. Plus, OSX needs two more new maintenances: Unix housecleaning (MacJanitor), and repair of permissions (in Disk Utility). So there *are* more than ever. | The next meeting of the Louisville Computer Society will | be July 22.
