Hi George, Word will open Appleworks documents if saved in a format Word can open. Knowing that Appleworks can save documents in a word format, that provides a logical common format the two programs can share while preserving your formatting. Appleworks can also save documents as a generic text file which any word processor can open but you will lose much of your document formatting.
