I just got through watching today's Stevenote, and either I missed it, or there was some big news missing. (Big for the circles in which I run, that is.) Apple has their own rootless X11 server, and it's a lot faster than XDarwin and Oroboros. (www.apple.com/macosx/X11) This is _big_ news for the science and engineering folks and it will ease the troubles of porting some really heavy-hitting technical apps to the Mac, not to mention OpenOffice.
This will open the door to many companies and research labs that wouldn't otherwise seriously consider Macs. Apple is calling this version a public beta, but it works very well. | The next meeting of the Louisville Computer Society will | be January 28. The LCS Web page is <http://www.kymac.org>.
