Hi John,

I doubt your system is creating damaged .pdf files.  Your problem is a new
one to me.

You have several things you can try.  You can open these with both Acrobat
Reader and Preview.  Try opening the application first, then open the file
to test to see if both applications open the file correctly.  If they do,
then maybe by default when you open a .pdf file, a different application is
being triggered to open them and that application is not working properly.
That default can be easily changed.
