I found that I had MacWord 6 on the 9600 so I opened the files from the 190 on
the
9600 via the network, opened them with Word 6. Then sent them to the iMac via
the
network. Then opened in Appleworks 5 and saved in Word PC2000 format, copied
them
to a cd, and opened them happily on the Gateway Solo using Word PC 2000.

Thanks for your suggestions! You were right about the needed boost from Word 6.
