I ended up doing an archive and install, then did repair disk in disk utilities and got the same message I'd gotten before the archive and install.
About middle ways, it read, in red, "Invalid leaf record count. It should be 1 instead of 1715." Then at the end, in red "1 volume could not be repaired". Is it time to back up everything and do an erase/install? Thanks.
