Hmm, we need to start over on this one a bit Marta, to clear up some
confusion on how things happen and when :^)
Your browser (either Safari or Camino or which ever) will indeed be
the thing that downloads the files, not really Acrobat or Preview.
The browser fetches the file for you and then turns it over to your
viewer to handle it from there. A while back Adobe (the makers of
Acrobat) released a plug-in that was supposed to let you directly
view pdf files in your Safari browser (by-passing the need to
download and hand them off to the viewer). This did not work well
(for some reason) and messed up the way Safari did things with pdf
files (but NOT other files). There was supposed to be a fix to cure
this broken behavior, but the fix has not worked well either -- it
did not restore Safari's old way of doing things nor did it let
Safari view the files directly in the browser -- when things break,
they really break!
The best solution so far has been to use Safari's alternative
download method for the pdf files: hold down the option (alt) key
when you click on the link and it will download the file to the
desktop for you. Then double click on the file and it will start up
in which ever viewer (Acrobat or Preview) you have set to be the
default for viewing pdf files -- side note: you can set this for all
pdf files using the 'Get Info' approach as has been discussed here
many times.
Hope this helps,
Jerry

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure
if I will use it or not, but I will come up with one.
