Help!

I have suddenly had a major loss and am in mourning... my address book
is inaccessible.I know how to go the route of Home Computer/ Library/
Application Support/ Address Book/Address Book.data. (That was in an
E-mail I saved from a previous person's question/ answer on our list
serve.)

My problem then is that I cannot find an application to open that file.
I'm told that "There is no default application specified to open the
document "AddressBook.data"." I can then choose to Cancel or to Choose
Application. Seems as though I would then want to Choose Application.
That's all well and good, but whatever I seem to choose as the
application will only give me choices of New Folder or Cancel. There is
also a space designated Open.... but it is shaded and not usable. Now
what?

I had it in my dock; but when I clicked on it, all I got was a big
question mark over the center of it.
While trying to fiddle with that, I "poofed" away that icon. Don't ask
me how it got into this condition in the first place... I haven't the
foggiest idea.

I can find all sorts of folders, etc. regarding Addresses; but they
don't get me anywhere. I get the same "No default application to open,
etc." for all of those, too. Now what do I do?I've yet to find anything
I can ask Help to get a pertinent answer.

I am running a G4 iMac with a flat screen, on Panther/ version10.3.9
system. I do have a back-up LaCie HD; it's gone on that, too.
