I have backed up to a firewire external hard disk drive before, but
today I'm having a problem.

The disk is OK on my iMac OS 10.3.9, and in OS X I have set the
ownership and permissions to let anyone read and write to the disk.

When I connect the HDD to an OS 9 iBook (from which I have backed up
before, tho perhaps in OS X),

        1. Using "get info", I check "file-sharing". It tells me it's
opening the file-sharing control panel, and to come back later.

        2. I can transfer files to the HDD, and between folders on
the HDD, until

        3. it finishes opening "file-sharing," when everything locks
up. I can move the cursor, but cannot klik anything.

        4. re-boot -> go to #1. Do not pass go. Do not collect $50.

What am I doing wrong?
