Hello People,

I finally got the problems fixed with the iMic last night, thanks to you
and to the folks at Griffin.

For future reference, here is the reply I got from Griffin:

---------------------------- cut here ----------------------------
>1. Flip the switch towards speaker. This will amplify the signal coming in.
>2. Go to Applications-->Utilites and run Audio MIDI Setup. Set the
>"Properties For:" to iMic USB Audio System and make sure that both input and
>output are set to 16bit 44100Hz 2 channels. Most likely it is set to 8bit
[ed note: this wasn't a problem for me.]
>3. Run Final Vinyl click EQ and set it to connected to turntable with a 10db
>boost.
[ed note: Bill King's 20db setting worked better.]
>4. Click Preview see if any of that helped the situation.

Part of the problem I had had was having the switch set on the setting
for 'line-in' devices, since these are supposed to have been amplified
already. Now I know the definition of 'line-in'.

The other parts were grounding and wiring. After I went through the
above, I tried plugging the iMic into my USB hub, instead of directly
into the back of the computer. The 60Hz buzz got worse.

I also tried attaching the ground wire to the cheapie stereo, again.
Ground buzz (60Hz) got worse still.

So... I put the ground back onto the wire directly to the ground screw on
the outlet (Andy's suggestion) and the USB connection directly into the
computer, and all was good, again. I still have to try grounding to the
UPS (uninterruptable power supply) which feeds all the computer equipment
but the monitors. That would be much easier...

Thanks for all the help, folks. I'm now ready to start ripping and
learning about cleaning sound files. I figure if I can record 2 sides a
night, I'll have my records all digital by the end of 2005. [Maybe I
shouldn't think of it this way...]

Bill
