How about using Image Capture to get the scan then import via iPhoto?
Note: Image Capture will let you directly import from a lot of cameras
or card readers into iPhoto, but scanners have to have images
interpreted (turned into TIFF or JPEG format) before they can be saved
onto the hard drive. This is what the scanner plug-ins for PhotoShop,
and other image editing or OCR softwares do that allow you to directly
import into their programs. Lacking the plug-in, most softwares will
not allow the direct import method to be used, so you go through the
technique I listed at the top of the message.
I do not know (yet) of anyone making a plug-in for iPhoto that uses
most scanner's TWAIN routines to directly go into iPhoto.
