After my presentation on Mail programs for OS X at Tuesday night's
Louisville Computer Society meeting I was inspired to finally make the
switch. I narrowed my choices to Apple's Mail program and PowerMail.
I tried Mail and rejected it for two reasons:
1. I didn't like the fact that when sending a mail message to
multiple addresses, the addresses are listed on one line and separated by
commas. In power mail, each address is listed on a separate line.
2. I don't care for the address book. Nothing specific, it just seems
cumbersome to use.
I ruled out quickmail because Lee said there were problems with QuickMail
and the macgroup digest.
I didn't look at Mulberry because Lee recommended against using it if you
were not doing IMAP.
PowerMail would not directly import my OE address book and mailboxes but
it does import those items from Mail. I imported my OE address book and
mailboxes into Mail and then imported them into PowerMail.
It took me the better part of the day to go through my 539 addresses and
configure them for PowerMail's address book. I discarded about 50
addresses in the process.
It took less than 30 minutes to import and organize my OE mailboxes. I
spent another few minutes setting up my 5 mail accounts and my signatures.
I have over 60 rules for sorting incoming mail. To my knowledge I cannot
import them so I will just recreate them as the need arises.
it's been fun and it's good to be away from OE.

What a strange, long, trip it is!
