My flat beige G3 with OSX, so satisfactory for a year, lost the ability to open its System Prefs. I tried a lot of things suggested on the Apple Discussions site, but they did not help. After a week someone on Apple Discussions said the solution was to copy a fresh set of System Prefs from another computer. I don't know how I would have done that, but long before I read that answer, I had given up and bought a new G4 DP and installed my old drive in it.
