MAC Group,
Normally I need help with OS X items, now a question for the Excel guru's with us. I have a friend that is an elementary teacher and her school does not provide any automation, so I wanted to create a spreadsheet that would keep the pertinent information for the students in each of her classes. All has gone well with the design, and most of the formulas. There are nine weeks in a grading period, with twelve on the spreadsheet to cover snow days, etc. Each week has a total points for each of the students, then the average for that week in the next column. At the end of the twelve weeks is a grand total for the student and the final column is the total average. I am having trouble with the TOTAL average. I used the formula for the average, then clicked on the weekly totals so the formula reads: =AVERAGE (I8+P8+W8+AD8+AK8+AR8+AY8+BF8+BM8+BT8+CA8+CH8} In my sample the total for the nine weeks was 925 total points, with the twelve entries I should get an average of 77.08, yet Excel gives me the 925??? Excel will give the correct answer by taking the total in cell CJ and dividing by 12, but I would like to understand what I am doing wrong. I do appreciate any help. Many thanks!
