The Main Identity folder has these files in it:
Signatures
Rules
Mailing Lists
Database Cache
Database

The Database file is the big one, because it contains all your addresses and
messages. Mine is 22 megabytes, even after I made a rule to delete Sent
messages after only two years.

It sounds like you tried to look into Database by trying to Open it, as if
it would show you something new and different. All it can show you is your
regular Mail window, because that is how the database is displayed. Those
addresses and messages accessed via your Mail window ARE your identity, and
you are "Main".

You can set up identities for other users, and OE will keep their address
book and messages separate from yours in another Identity folder.
