I have had two cheap UMAX scanners, currently an Astra 3400, each of which has worked well. Each came with CD containing Adobe's Photo Deluxe and OmniPage LE, which converts scans into text (OCR Optical Character Recognition). The CD contained another program I could never understand. I suspect that Adobe hopes to let Photo Deluxe, which came with the scanners, become obsolete, and replace it with Photo Shop Elements, for which persons pay cash.
