Hello Beth,

The files themselves are physically stored in an almost linear fashion
(if you were to look at a map of the drive), they get all of "nested"
folder views from how they are arranged in the directory file.

Rather than just re-install let me suggest to you the following:

1) back-up the files that are critical by copying them to another drive
2) Zero the drive out (re-format)
3) Copy the files back.

This will give you a couple of pluses that will make things run smoother
for you, in that you will replace the master directory file with a new
one and get a quick version of de-fragmenting the drive. Your machines
will probably seem like it is running considerably faster for apps that
use the drive a lot. (As an aside, you might also want to consider
de-fragmenting the other machines -- they will run faster as well). You
mentioned that you have Tech Tool Pro, this has the de-fragmenting
utilities in it.

Jerry

p.s. Uh, de-fragging a drive can take a while, depending on how big the
drive is, how many files are on it, how badly fragmented they are, etc.
