[1] From OS X hints ( liberally edited for clarity) With iCal preferences set to Show 24 hours, hold down the Option key while scrolling up to zoom out on the viewable hours (see more calendar hours in a view), hold down the Option key while scrolling down to zoom in on a specific entry (expand the view of a specific calendar entry). Works in Day and Week views.
