Marta, I use Now Contact, but I am helping another person with address book and I found that if you highlight on the "all" icon on the address program and then go under "File" and then "export Vcard", tell it where you want to place it, you will then have a file with the name of "all" in that location.
If you then double click the file it will attempt to put the files back into the address book for you. I didn't actually allow, I was just trying to see if it would work, and it told me it was going to override 53 names. So, it seems that if you save that file ever so often you would have a complete backup of your directory, or you could email it to another for them to import on another machine. John R.
