I am guessing the you want a short answer on this one.
Carbonlib is a software tool that helps OS-8 and OS-9 programs run
better in the Classic environment of OS-X. it translates the older
system tool calls into the language that OS-X uses. You will need it to
run the older stuff in OS-X. Many of the first OS-X programs also use
this collection of routines as well, so do not throw it away. If a
program claims to be entirely Cocoa based, it should not use the Carbon
library routines. It is not easy to tell if a OS-X program is using it
(Carbon) or not, even some of the early Cocoa based programs may sneak
some of the older Carbon calls in.
I hope that helps,
Jerry

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure if
I will use it or not, but I will come up with one.
