Hey folks!

10.2.8 rendered my machine at home unbootable (it would get into an
endless loop at the autologin).

So... I took the Windoze solution: I went and reinstalled 10.2, using the
archive and install option, and then running through all the updates from
Software Update. I fixed some of the customizations I had, which were
easy to fix, and then went into the Previous Systems folder and copied
all the special Preference Panes etc. over to the new /Library folder
etc. So far, so good.

Now for the unixy stuff: I looked in /usr/local on the freshly installed
boot partition, and noticed it was empty. So... I did a ditto to bring
over everything from the old /usr/local folder. It /seems/ that most of
my unix stuff is still in order.

This makes me wonder, though: is there some sort of
merge-old-and-new-stuff which works like Conflict Catcher used to? Is
there a unix utility?

Bill
hoping that the machine doesn't suddenly start acting strange, and
wanting to get rid of the old system stuff if possible.
