I've had Excite running as home page for years, so I'm well familiar
with what Harry's feeling right now - doesn't look to me like there's
anything intrinsically wrong with what he's trying to do. It appears
that the Java server page Excite's trying to open when he clicks on
the "edit settings' link is still compressed as a gzip file on the
server, so it's not rendering onscreen and IE doesn''t recognize it
as a .jsp file. The other edit pages (or, at least the ones I've
tried so far) open without a hitch.

It looks to me like it's something Excite needs to fix on their end,
which I imagine they'll do when they finish transferring the email
database this week, assuming they're aware of the issue.
Parenthetically, I much preferred the old Excite's dynamic html to
the Java-driven new site, which doesn't come up worth a damn on
Netscape and tends to be the source of more errors in IE than before.
Sandbox.com did the same thing a few months ago, and it renders so
badly in Netscape that I ended up having to change browsers just to
keep maintaining my fantasy league teams.
