If your provider allows 11 digits to be used, then 11 digits ought to work just fine.
Also, you probably need to read more of the MacFixIt notes regarding Earthlink. Its not just an OS 9.0.4, OS 9.1, OS 9.2 or OS 9.2.1 issue.
