I now know the behavior of the outbox, but I still can't find the status bar, the one that is below the toolbar, was accessible in Panther by clicking the view in the toolbar where it had an option : show status bar --which showed the amount of letters in the box displayed and when sending, it showed the little wheel going round until the mail had been sent. That is the one I cannot find, perhaps it is gone for good. Just wanted to know. Thanks Marta
