When I re-start, my desktop picture reverts to the default.
When I klik an object and the program to open it is not running, it
does not start.
e.g. klik on a stuffed file, and StuffitExpander does NOT open.
but if running, opens the file.
klik on a jpg, and GraphicConverter does NOT open,
but if running, opens the file.
I used Grab to make a screen shot gif.
iMac used some default program to open it.
I used [command] [I] "Get info" to change the program to open all gifs.
It listed some, but not all, graphics programs. When I chose Graphic
Converter, it took it, pondered a few seconds, then told me that GC
was "not applicable," and spat it out.
When I tried again and chose GraphicConverter, it showed not
GraphicConverter as chosen, but ColorSyncUtility 4.4.3.
But when I klikt on the gif, GraphicConverter opened it.
Background:
iMac 700mHz G4, 10.3.9, CD drive only, no DVD drive, was (and now)
running 10.3.9.
I installed Tiger from a universal DVD thru an iBook, then up-dated
automatically on line.
Then had lots of odd problems so I did an erase / install of Tiger,
again with a universal DVD thru the iBook.
Still had lots of odd problems, so backed up, did an erase/install of 10.3.9.
Which led to the status quo described above.
Any insite appreciated.
Loan of Tiger install CDs especially appreciated.
