Some time ago, I downloaded a Java update (no longer remember why, since I
don't need much of what Java has) and put it on my external HD. Then I was
told it wouldn't run on my ancient OS. Recently, cleaning out old files on the
HD, I tried to trash the update. Everything went except four folders:
Applications, Library, System, and usr. When I tried to trash them, I got
message:
"This operation could not be completed because the item is owned by root."
Hmm. I thot *I* owned everything on this Mac. Does this mean I have to
reformat the HD, or is there another way? Maybe I have to live with it?
Much thanks, as usual.

Nolan
