Apple has instructions for doing this on their web-site:
http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/
Go to the little sidebar called More Information. The second option
'Designing AirPort Extreme Networks'
http://images.apple.com/airport/pdf/DesigningAirPortNets-022-1036.pdf
will give you a pdf file that you can download that covers the how-tos
for this. (Assuming that you are using Apple equipment, of course).

p.s. If you are semi-skilled at building electronics, you can just
build a better antenna for extending the range

I am not sure about how many laptops this will support at one time
though :)

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure if
I will use it or not, but I will come up with one.
