Apple has decided to make more of its open source contributions even more open by releasing WebKit Open Source Project. WebKit is the system framework used on Mac OS X by Safari, Dashboard, Mail.app, and many other OS X applications. It is based on the KHTML engine from KDE. You will need to have the Developer Tools installed on your machine.
http://webkit.opendarwin.org/ If you are wanting to have Safari live on the cutting edge like the FireFox folks get to, then you certainly can do so as this is a full CVS repository.
