PLE wouldn't open these particular kind of plist files ?dP, ??\ etc.  
I assume you to be saying these are Finder Preferences such as window  
sizes etc. In Terminal I did a "defaults read com.apple.finder" to  
view some interesting minutia.  Thx...jf
