I'm pretty sure that WMP for Mac doesn't encode--it's only a decoder to
let you listen to .wma songs on a Mac.

If you're looking for a more efficient encoder than iTunes, there's
always LAME:

My understanding is that the MP3's produced by LAME will generally be
smaller than iTunes, though probably not as small as the .wma files
would be. I've never really used that feature--the feature I do use
with LAME is converting protected AAC files (i.e., the songs I buy from
the iTunes Store) into the MP3 format for use on non-iPod/iTunes
players.

My son received an MP3 player (ilo 256 to be exact) that is Mac OS X
compatible. He wants to rip tracks from CDs, converting them into .wma
format. Our problem is that we don't see these options on WMP 9. When we
open it, the window provided appears to be a video/CD player offering no
options. Can anyone help? Thanks.
