If you are seeing these files while logged into Mac OS X, you have downloaded an application that turns on that feature. To remove the ability to see these files when logged into a Windows machine, you must edit the smb.conf file that lives inside the /private/etc folder. The easiest way to do this is to download and launch SharePoints (an application). When you launch SharePoints, click on the SMB Properties tab and then click on the File Visibility tab. Place a check mark in the box "Hide Files Starting with a Period" and then click the "Update Samba (SMB) Server Properties button at the bottom of the window. You may need to authenticate to do this. This GUI app places the line hide dot files = yes in the file. I'll be bringing a Mac Mini and an iPod Shuffle to the meeting Tuesday night for people to see.
