You might also consider trying the Drive Utility app that lives over
in your Utilities folder. It is famous here for being the app to use
to Repair Permissions (fixes nine out of ten problems, unclogs
kitchen sinks, walks the dog at night in rain storms, etc.)

Drive Utility will do a lot more for you. If your drive is connected,
but not mounted, DU can take care of that for you, along with
ejecting drives, and more.

Someday, I will come up with a clever signature line. I am not sure
if I will use it or not, but I will come up with one.
