Greetings all, Well duh, mystery solved: the reason why I was not aware of when that info disappeared from my HD icon was because it was on my laptop (where I run Panther)! Apparently it is not a feature for Jaguar, which is what I run on the desktop at school. I suppose I'll run into more of this when I eventually do upgrade the laptop to Tiger and the desktop to Panther, sigh. Once I figured it out, boy did I feel dumb; nothing like a machine to do that for you, even if it is a smart one! Anyway, sorry to have troubled you all with silliness, I appreciate your efforts to enlighten me, as always! Cathy
