I've a friend with an iMac or something running OS 9.1.

He's looking to move up to OS X.2 but is unsure what his update strategy
needs to be as he wants to have a dual boot machine. If this was a PC I
would simply head over to his place and use Partition Magic to resize his
9.1 install, and let him do an update on 9.1 to 9.2 and install X.2 as
normal.

Does the Mac have a best of breed repartitioner? Does the OS X install
come with anything that will do this?

http://www.fwb.com/html/partition_toolkit.html seems to be one such piece
of software. But I've no clue if more experienced Mac admins would advise
something else. It's 25 dollars which is a pretty good price all things
considered.
